The Museum of the Brazilian House (MCB) inaugurates the exhibition Latin Types - 8ª Biennial of Latin American Typography.
The opening will feature the lectures "The Corporate Typography in the LATAM project" by Daniel Sabino (type designer from Blackletra) and "Creative Manager / Interbrand" by Gil Botari (creative manager of Interbrand). Representatives of the Types Latin Committee, Ricardo Esteves, technical coordinator, and Andrea Kulpas, graphic designer with specialization in typography, will present an overview of the inscribed ones of this edition. There will also be a tribute to the designer Alexandre Wollner, who would make 90 years in 2018. The public will also be able to follow the production of posters with the technique of printing presses - pressure of metallic types movable on paper -, that will be distributed to the visitors.
The initiative, which has Brazil as a co-founder, emerged in 2004 and occurs simultaneously in 14 Latin American countries - Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, Guatemala, Mexico, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela . Every two years, Types Latin receives inscriptions of works related to the typography and selects the innovations of the market. The traveling exhibition travels through several cities in each of the participating countries and presents to the public what is most important happening in the Latin American typographic universe. In Brazil, he made his debut in Goiânia, on May 16, and must travel through cities such as Brasilia, Bauru and Manaus.
The Latin Types will bring to the MCN 73 works, of which 15 are of Brazilian designers, selected among the 444 inscribed ─ 116 projects of Brazil, 83 of Chile and 81 of Argentina. The jury, composed of Ricardo Esteves (Brazil), Diego Aravena (Chile), Fernanda Cozzi (Argentina), Isaías Loaiza (Mexico), Rubén Salinas (Bolivia) and Felipe Calderón in March, to select the winners, who are part of the exhibition.
This year, there was the inclusion of the category New Talents (Emerging), in which students and professionals competed without previous experience in the commercial publication of types; in addition to subdivisions into six other categories: Text, Title, Handwritten, Superfamily, Experimental and Miscellaneous.
