In a kind of conference, Cologne holds horizons for the dismemberment of a historical social reality, and invites the audience to follow the evolution of a thought that inhabits the moist space between concept and poetry.
What can a colony? And yet, what are the limits of performance? These were two decisive questions for the appearance of this piece. Reflecting on what characterizes a colony and its forces, is to think its function within society. In starting from this premise we come across different meanings for the term, concepts that if put side by side present contradictions, generate paradoxes and aspire connections. In order for this diversity of definitions to converge, two catalysts were elected: our colonial heritage and the history of the Colony Hospital in Barbacena.
Between 1960 and 1970, the Cologne hospice in Barbacena housed patients who, for the most part, had no diagnosis of madness. Even so, 60 a thousand people were killed. Today, almost 60 years later, we witnessed manifestations of hate, ultranationalists, promoting the idea of extermination of the differences.
