Bill Viola is a pioneering contemporary artist in video art and motion picture. Owner of a work widely recognized, the North American artist investigates the cycles of life, death and rebirth. His pieces are often linked to the history of art and address subjects and concepts such as perception and spirituality.
This exhibition features works from the last two decades, such as Martyrs (2014), Transfigurations (2007 / 2008), projections such asInverted Birth (2014) and other 2000 productions, including Study for the Path (2002) and The Quintet of Silent (2000). Works from the beginning of his career, from the 1970 decade to mid-90, are also presented in monthly video programs in the unit's auditorium. The show was conceived and organized by Sesc in collaboration with the Bill Viola Studio.
