After being restored, the Spider (1996), by Louise Bourgeois, is about to return to the glass room made for its exhibit almost twenty years ago. When present, it seems to observe the Marquise and its breadth of territories and uses. At the end of the building granted by the Municipality of São Paulo to the MAM, this sculpture allows to think of the neighborhood of the museum with the free space, where one of the most expressive and spontaneous cultural, sports and political manifestations of the city happens, can inform and challenge the identity of the museum.
It is in the nature of Spider sew webs. To do so, it needs almost nothing, just the guarantee of traffic. In the interval between the institution and the public square, in spite of the binarisms, the physical barriers and the habits that separate inside and outside, it is worth identifying possibilities of movement, cooperation and learning both mutual and collective.
While the MAM awaits the return of Bourgeois' work, this show is inspired by its metaphor of connection. A collection of works from the collection of the museum in this Paulo Figueiredo Room is articulated with an agenda of performances, workshops and shows in the Marquise, within the schedule of Sunday MAM, conducted by the Educator since 2013. Through an artistic intervention, which also manifests itself as architecture and graphic language, Grupo Inteiro created moving parts that go back to the different vocations of this space. The pavilion where the MAM works since 1969 was once a Wax Museum (1954) and a Skating Rink (1955). Today, there are two galleries for exhibitions. This room, in particular, can be experienced, during the time of the show, also as backwater, stage, track, circular arena, in its interfaces with the surroundings.
Between the history and the present, the perspectives and processes of creative and public agents invited to collaborate, between what is given and what each one can bring, the medium is a place of desire not devoid of overlaps and disputes. Here, there or wherever it is convenient to weave, if the knots do not stop the plot, they can become links of listening, respect, responsibility, empathy and belonging.
