In 2017 Uia completes 10 years of existence. We thought that was a good reason to go back to the air! Out of the hundreds of requests for "back, Uia!" We have received in those two years of pause.
Much has happened in this time and we return with some changes already consolidated and still others to come.
Yes, because as you know, we stopped because we did not have money to keep the site up. And we still do not have (haha). But we feel that if each person who misses us can dedicate a small amount (cheaper than a McDonald's snack or a beer in the ballad) for a month, now we are going to be able to not only keep the daily agenda but also bring many more cool things!
So, are you part of that story ?!
Eight years ago, more precisely on the 2 day of August of 2007, Uia Diário was born. As a blog, thought to share with friends the cultural tips of the city of São Paulo, taking as a motto the classic question: what is the good of the day?
At first, the creators Ana Carmo and Alice Coutinho invited several friends to be collaborators. As time passed, friends no longer had time to dedicate to posting every day. But Ana, Alice and Monica Herculano persisted. And they decided that it was time to make the blog a site.
If a blog was already working, imagine being committed to providing a daily agenda service on a website. Already more than 50 houses and cultural spaces that the girls went back daily to know what the programming. All the research, writing, programming was done outside of business hours, after they came from "formal" work (aka the one who paid the bills).
They took money out of their pockets, hired a designer (the wonderful Lin Diniz) to give a pretty face to the business, skated among various programmers, weekly meetings, plans, ideas to get out of the digital (there is still the doll of a monthly magazine that never circulated ). They decided to make a podcast, which had 73 editions and lots of story told and lived in the studio of partner's house, friend and director Theo Werneck. They were invited to make a weekly agenda in the IG, where for about a year they had the experience of indicating cultural programs from all over Brazil.
At the end of 2011, Ana decided it was time to do other things. Alice and Monica decided that they would keep the site, and began to think of a new series of actions that could be taken, not only to grow as a cultural reference in the city - as with the monthly music chats throughout the year. 2014, in the House of the Core - but especially in trying to make the site financially sustainable - something that had never happened: the site never had financial support, publicity, donors, sponsors ...
Among conversations with friends, potential investors, digital marketing specialists, advertising agencies, they met Daniel Taparelli, who not only offered to make an iPhone application, but also the first meeting with the business ready, and Raúl Javales Junior, who and also gave financial support for the payment of the journalist Caroline Sarmento, who since 2014 helped in the daily publication of events - at that time, in addition to the more than 50 houses and cultural spaces that the site already covered, dozens and dozens of emails arrived every day with prompts.
A year ago, more precisely on 15's December 2014 day, Uia's new website came online. Again with Lin Diniz designer, but already with the programming of a team that finally met the expectations, the people of Doois, there from São Carlos.
It was a wonderful new perspective. With the site formatted to have more views (and consequently more financial possibilities), plans to launch a new application (also for Android, as always was requested, and with a thousand features), face-to-face event ideas, (UiaTV, with beautiful videos of the super Murilo Alvesso), an online radio show debuting at Antena Zero, 2015 had everything to be the turning point year. But it did not.
Only pro site, ideas for improvements were many, such as having more texts of collaborations, cover events, expand and improve the daily agenda (less copy and release glue and more texts themselves). But only the site, just to keep the minimum that had been done for years, was already a lot of work. Much more than it was being possible to keep, even outside business hours. It was nights, mornings, weekends, holidays ... Every time it was time to check if everything was all right. And every day the feeling that it could and should be done more and better.
But how to do more and better, with the same conditions of time and money, and less physical conditions? After all, 8 years passed, owls no longer have 20 and few, and even a owl will come to the world in 2016. That is, the responsibilities are increasing and you can not do more just for love.
So the decision: it's time to take a break on the run. And make a deep assessment, which is not possible with the wheel spinning. Rest, look from the outside, try to identify new possibilities and return only when you can offer the service complete and well done.
Uia is not running out, but as of this 21 December day of 2015, it pauses indefinitely.
Meanwhile, all ideas and proposals will be most welcome, evaluated and considered. The email firstname.lastname@example.org will remain open, but instead of tips of what to do today, you will receive suggestions on how the owls project can stay alive.
For now, only thanks to everyone who participated and helped all these years. Everyone knows how and how much. Feel embraced, kissed and loved forever. It was all worth it!
See you soon!
Although he had directed the exceptional "The Killers" and "Action between Friends", it was with "The Invader" that Beto Brant arrived with power in the roll of Brazilian cinematography. And it is about him that the filmmaker talks to the public next Friday (21 / 8), at 15h, in the Viriato Corrêa Library (Sena Madureira Street, 298, Vila Mariana, São Paulo).
The debate is part of a series of meetings with directors of cinema in public libraries in São Paulo. The action is promoted by Revista de Cinema in partnership with Spcine, and takes place throughout August and September. At the time, the filmmakers present their works, tell details about the process of creation and debate important issues raised by each film.
Released in 2001, "The Invasive" is an adaptation of Marçal Aquino's eponymous book, partner in at least five other Brant productions. Starring Paulo Miklos, in his first work in the cinema, the film has won prizes in different national and international festivals, among them, Sundance, Cine PE and Trophy APCA. It tells the story of two partners of a construction company who hire a rent assassin to eliminate the third and then have to deal with the intrusive behavior of the criminal.
The meeting with the filmmakers follows 1h at 14h, with the exhibition of "Bróder" (2009), at the Alceu Amoroso Lima Library (Rua Henrique Schaumann, 777, Pinheiros). Film debut by director Jefferson De, has Caio Blat, Jonathan Haagensen, Sílvio Guindane, Cassia Kiss and Ailton Graça in the cast.
To close the program, director Tata Amaral presents "Antônia". Launched in 2007, it tells the story of four friends who face a daily violence, poverty and machismo to realize the dream of living rap. The feature film stars Negra Li, Leilah Moreno, Quelynah and Cindy Mendes. The exhibition will take place on 30 in September, at 14h30, in the Álvares de Azevedo Library (Praça Joaquim José da Nova, s / n, Vila Maria).
Entry to the events is free and subject to space.
The wonderful Elza Soares will now launch in October her new album: The woman at the end of the world. A disc with only new songs composed by musicians and composers of the new generation from São Paulo, such as Kiko Dinucci, Rodrigo Campos, Romulo Fróes.
And amazingly, it is the first album that the singer launches only with unpublished in all its race (that already are more than 50 years).
Elza is pure power and very well received the challenge proposed by the director of the project, the drummer Guilherme Kastrup, and all the incredible group that he reunited to compose and arrange the disc.
And yesterday was released the first single of the album, the song 'Maria da Vila Matilde'(because if Penha is brave, imagine that of Vila Matilde!), by Douglas Germano. A samba de breque humorous and sour, giving a slap in the sexist tradition of samba. Amazing!
Listen and download here on the Natura Musical platform.
ps. I have the honor to announce that there is a letter of mine on the album, the song that gives the album "Woman of the End of the World", a partnership with Romulo Fróes! Good luck! \O/
A few months ago we launched our channel UiaTV.
Well, now beyond the daily tips, the columns and photos of employees and a weekly radio program, we invade the audiovisual world! And for this to be possible we count on an incredible partner, the Murilo Alvesso, plus one of those wonderful souls that we find in life, and still super talented.
The idea is to be a channel of music and art. Sharing new releases, shows and news you need to know. And we started very well already with the musicians Arthur Nogueira, Tatá Aeroplano and Alessandra Leão, one releasing disc, another in show and another in studio. Look how nice it was:
Arthur Nogueira releasing new album, No Fear, No Hope:
Tata Airplane in show of In Madness and In Lucidity:
Alessandra Leão, in studio recording the disc Steel:
